The Fruitport Township Police Department is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to provide essential administrative support to the Township’s public

safety departments. This position serves as a key point of contact for the public and plays a vital role in maintaining accurate records and ensuring efficient daily operations.

Fruitport Township, located in southern Muskegon County, encompasses 32 square miles and serves a population of more than 15,000 residents. Our department has a long-standing tradition of proudly providing law enforcement services to the residents and businesses of Fruitport Township, as well as the Village of Fruitport. Through our programs and services, we are proud to police one of the most desirable communities in West Michigan.

Position Overview:

This role provides essential administrative support to the Public Safety Departments. The Administrative Assistant serves as the first point of contact for the departments, greeting

visitors, residents, and employees both in person and over the phone. This requires excellent communication skills, the ability to gather and relay information effectively, and a commitment to providing timely assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact at the front office, assisting the public in person, by phone, and via email in a professional and courteous manner
  • Provide administrative support to police and other public safety personnel
  • Perform records management duties, including organizing, maintaining, and retrieving documents in accordance with department policies
  • Gather and compile information for reports, correspondence, and departmental needs
  • Accurately enter and maintain data in internal systems and databases
  • Assist with processing reports, permits, and other official documents
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Perform general office duties such as filing, scanning, copying, and scheduling

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred
  • Prior administrative or office experience, preferably in a government or public safety setting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer systems
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to public service
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

Work Schedule:

Full-time position; standard business hours with occasional flexibility as needed.

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly wage of $22–$24, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes health insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), retirement plan, paid time off, and holidays.
