Library Board Vacancies 2026
Trustees
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board are appointed by either the Fruitport Village Council or Township Board of Trustees to represent their shared interest in the library. The mission of the Board is to have a community library that is a desirable place for education and programs for our residents and their families as well as to provide an environment, atmosphere and materials that enhance our patron’s lives.
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board monitor the maintenance of the building and grounds to provide a reasonable perception to library patrons. Responsibilities also are to ensure that equipment for summer and winter maintenance is in proper functioning condition. The board president may make expenditures up to $500.00 when necessary.
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board act as a whole. One member may not act alone, or speak for the board as a whole, unless authorized by the board. Ethical standards shall be followed as well as local, state and federal laws. Violation(s) of this could require a resignation from the Board.
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board delegates the day to day operations of the library to the director. The board is ultimately responsibility for the success or failure of the library.
Staff
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board employs a competent and qualified librarian, including recruiting, hiring and evaluating the director based upon a well-defined job description and expectations. The Board votes to hire or release all library staff. The Board may hire and release library staff based upon the recommendation of the director. The Board adopts a personnel policy and sets adequate salary and benefits, if available, for all library staff.
Policies
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board are responsible for adopting written policies that govern the operation of the library.
Budget
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board prepare and adopt a budget with input from the director. The Board will examine and make revisions to amend line items within the budget as needed.
Advocacy
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board will advocate for the library through contacts with the general public, civic organization and public officials. The Board will keep our public and local governments informed on library activities. The Board will work to secure adequate funds to carry out the library’s services.
Legal Issues
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board will be familiar with library ordinance as well as state and federal laws affecting the library.
Education
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board will participate in continuing education activities and encourage the library director and staff to do the same. The Board will provide new trustees with an orientation to the library.
Communication
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board will communicate with each other and library director.
Meetings
Trustees of the Fruitport District Library Board will attend board meetings and present minutes to the Fruitport Village and Township. The Board will follow the Open Meetings Act and any other state, federal or local laws.
Board Member Recruitment
If a Board member is no longer able to serve, the board will post for letters of interest. The Board will review letters and interview eligible candidates. The Board will make a recommendation to either the Township or Village depending on where the vacancy occurs within a two month period.
2026 Fruitport District Library Board Vacancies
The Township of Fruitport has two vacant library trustee positions as two current board members are completing two-year terms that expires December 31, 2025.
