TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE COUNTY OF MUSKEGON, STATE OF MICHIGAN:  Notice is hereby given, that a PRIMARY ELECTION will be held in all precincts in Muskegon County, Michigan on Tuesday, AUGUST 2, 2022 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Nominations will be decided for the following: Governor, 2nd District United States Representative in Congress, 3rd District Representative in Congress, 32nd District State Senator, 33rd District State Senator, 87th District State Representative, 88th District State Representative, 89th District State Representative, 102nd District State Representative, County Commissioners, Casnovia Township Clerk-Partial Term, Cedar Creek Township Clerk-Partial Term, Dalton Township Treasurer-Partial Term, Sullivan Township Trustee-Partial Term, White River Township Trustee-Partial Term, Whitehall Township Treasurer-Partial Term, Judge of 14th Circuit Court and Judge of 14th Circuit Court-New Judgeship. Precinct Delegates will be elected.

 

The following millage proposals will appear on the ballot at the Tuesday, August 2, 2022 election:

 

MUSKEGON CENTRAL DISPATCH 9-1-1

OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL

Casnovia Township

Fire Services Millage Renewal

 

Shall the expired previous voted millage increases in the tax limitations imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution in Casnovia Township of  1 mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), which have been reduced to 0.9776 mills by required millage rollbacks under MCL 211.34d, and which millage expired for levy in 2021 be renewed and increased to the originally voted 1 mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for 5 years (2022 through 2026 inclusive) for the purpose of providing funds to be expended by the Township for the purpose of maintaining, and/or the purchase of equipment and vehicles, for the Casnovia Township Fire Department; and shall the Township levy such increase in millage for said purpose during said period, thereby, raising in the first year an estimated $87,671?

FOR THE AUGUST 2, 2022 SPECIAL TOWNSHIP ELECTION

 

Any qualified resident of the Township of Cedar Creek, County of Muskegon, State of Michigan, who is not already registered to vote may register to vote in a special election to be held on the 2nd day of August, 2022, in the Township, in conjunction with the State primary election.

 

The last day to register for the August 2, 2022 special election in any manner other that in person will be:

MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSITION

1.4523 MILLS FOR FIRE PROTECTION PURPOSES

 

Shall the increase in the Township of Cedar Creek tax rate limitation, currently 1.4523 mills ($1.4523 per $1,000 of taxable value), be renewed and levied in the years 2023- 2028, both inclusive, subject to reduction as provided by law, on taxable property in the Township?

 

The purpose of this levy is to provide funds for fire protection and emergency rescue purposes in the Township. It is estimated that a levy of 1.4523 mills would provide revenue of $ 137,734 in the first calendar year. The revenue from this millage levy will be disbursed to the Township of Cedar Creek.

Prior to July 18, 2022 and up to and including August 2, 2022, the Township Clerk maintains regular office hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Township Hall, 6556 Sweeter Rd., Twin Lake, Michigan, to process applications for in person voter registration.

Township of Cedar Creek

 

Laketon Township Public Safety

Renewal Proposal

 

This millage is a renewal of a previously authorized millage. Shall the tax limitation on the general ad Valorem taxes with Laketon Township imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution as previously increased for said Township by up to 1.8470 Mills. ($1.8470 per $1,000 of taxable value) for the 2022 millage be continued for the period 2024-2028 inclusive for Public Safety (Fire Protection and Police Protection); and shall the Township levy such millage for said purpose, Thereby, raising the first year up to an estimated $511,820.

 

Moorland Township

Millage Proposition

0.5 Mill for Fire Protection Purposes

 

Shall the Township of Moorland impose an increase of 0.5 mill ($0.50 per $1,000 of taxable value), to be approved and levied in the years 2022-2036, both inclusive, for fire protection purposes, subject to reduction as provided by law, on taxable property in the Township?

 

The purpose of this new millage levy is to purchase equipment for the Township fire department to provide fire protection within the Township. It is estimate that a levy of 0.5 mill would provide revenue of $24,628.32 in the first calendar year. The revenue from this millage levy will be disbursed to the Township of Moorland.

 

Muskegon Charter Township

Road Repair, Maintenance and Improvements Millage Renewal

 

Shall the expired previously approved voted increase in the tax limitation under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution in Muskegon Charter Township be renewed at 1.5 mills ($1.50 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for a period of five (5) years, 2022 through 2026 inclusive, for the purpose of Road Repair, Maintenance and Improvements; and if this millage is approved and levied in its entirety, the Township would collect an estimated $623,000 in the first year of such levy?
